The city of Ahmedabad is a crazy amalgamation of cultures and people, ethnicities and cuisines. From the Marathas to the Moghuls, from the Sultanats to the Britishers, from Gandhi to Modi, everyone had left a distinct touch to the character of the city. In a city of such diverse influences, it wasn’t long that cycling, the new fad, would take time to catch up. In October 2012, five friends decided to venture out on a journey of fitness and wellbeing and the Cyclone Cycling club was born. The club has been enthusiastically promoting cycling for a fitter and healthier lifestyle and an eco-friendly means of commute. There are 1600+ registered members and Cyclone has various chapters in Ahmedabad, Pune, Himmatnagar, Sumerpur, etc. There is no registration fee to become a member of Cyclone and cyclists across all age groups are encouraged to ride in various events throughout the year
In November 2013, they got affiliated with Audax India Randonneur (AIR), to conduct brevets in Ahmedabad, and Ahmedabad Randonneurs was established. Their AIR events have seen tremendous response and helped sincere cyclist to build their endurance and improve their game.
The most unique and striking thing about Cyclone is, there are rides 365 days a year. The daily routes are broadcasted in advance to the riders and are normally 30 to 40 kms and on weekends there are longer distance rides of 50 to 100kms. They ensure that the routes are interesting for everyone and there is a different challenge every day. They also conduct night rides in summer months to keep the tempo going. There are also special events and sessions on Physio, endurance riding etc. that keeps the riders glued in. The club has also tie-ups with local bike renting shops that encourages the new riders to test the waters and then become addicted to cycling thus increasing the tribe
Cyclone is also active about raising awareness related to social issues, like riding for the environment, Like Earth Hour Ride, No tobacco ride, ride in association with Ahmedabad Traffic Police, Promote cycling for children etc.
Cyclone-ers have represented several national and international events since inception. They had a thumping participation in Desert 500, 1000Km Wagah Border Brevet, Tour of Nilgiris, Manali Leh, Tour or Aravallis (their own signature event launched in 2016), the Polo race etc. Mehul Joshi, Samir Shah, Bhavin Sarkar, Rajesh Purohit – four members from Cyclone participated in Paris-Brest-Paris (PBP) in 2015. There are several SR and double SR in Cyclone which includes Vyomesh Parmar, Niskarg Kansara, Bhavin Sarkar, Sohil Parekh.
