The 6Th MTB Shimla

Focusing on goals, ignoring obstacles!Hero MTB Himalaya- Shimla Edition, more popularly known as Hero MTB Shimla is a two day MTB XC race that is held every year in the month of April. The race is set in a background that calls out to an adventure lover, a mountain biker, a nature lover, and asks them to get embodied in the serene Himalayas. Travelling through Wildlife Sanctuaries, Himalayan countryside, streams and rivulets, participants experience everything pure that the Himalayas have to offer. The participants get to meet the most amazing people, and get to stay in the most beautiful locations, eat authentic delicacies and ride through the best terrain in India. The riders pedal their way through gut wrenching uphill tracks, Speedy downhill tracks, village back roads, beautiful meadows, thick vegetation, jeep tracks and savor real mountain biking as they travel around 120 kilometers in 2 days with an elevation gain of 3500m and highest elevation of 2650m.

The 2017 Edition, held on 14-15 April 2017, saw the highest ever participation in the history of the event. 130 riders from over 7 nationalities (India, Nepal, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Germany and Czech Republic) and more than 20 cities raced across the Shivalik Hills. The event also saw the highest female participation across all mountain biking races in the country. 11 lady riders were contending for the Queen of Shivalik title. Professional cycling teams including Hero Action Team, Merida Cycling team, Team Lappierre and cycling groups including Gurgaon’s Pedalyatri, Jaipur’s Aravali Trail Hunters and Chandigarh’s Riders of Storm are participating in the race. Teams from defense forces- SSB and Indian Navy also participated in the race taking the total participation to 130. There was a new category that was introduced this season – TEAM OF TWO CATEGORY. The riders contended in teams of two. The other categories include open men solo, open women solo, student category and masters solo.

Hero Action Team continued to dominate this season also. With the support of Hero Cylces, HASTPA has been able to nurture talent as Akshit Gaur and Sarah Appelt in their UT Edge bikes (special segment bikes from Hero) won the students and women category respectively.
